New demonstration: Cross-border payment service on GovStack’s Sandbox

Cross-border payments may sound simple, but behind every transaction lies a complex ecosystem of regulations, currencies, compliance requirements, and interconnected systems.
To demonstrate how Digital Public Infrastructure can help overcome these challenges, GovStack, Mifos Payment Hub EE, and Mastercard joined forces in a new example implementation showcasing interoperable and modular cross-border payment infrastructure.
The demo simulates a real-world cross-border pension payments: a Zimbabwean civil servant issues a pension payment to a former government employee living in South Africa.
It runs on a modular Government system that uses Mifos Payment Hub EE as Payment Building Block orchestrating single and bulk payments to Mastercard’s global money movement platform „Mastercard Move“ for seamless cross border processing.
Together, this collaboration delivers:
- Reusable infrastructure across public services
- Faster, near real-time transaction processing
- End-to-end transaction visibility
- Open, modular architecture
- Transparent, citizen-centred delivery model
Cross-border payments sit at the intersection of technology, governance, and service delivery. Demonstrations like this show that interoperable systems aren’t just technically possible they’re essential for building public services.
