Impact of Open Source on the European economy
The EU Commission has published a study on the impact of Open Source on the European economy. As more and more companies have invested in Open Source Software, a positive impact on the economy can be found.
The study at hand predicts that an increase of 10% in contributions to Open Source Software code could generate an additional 0.4% or 0.6% GDP annually. Moreover, it gives concrete public policy recommendations and discusses several case studies that showcase how public sector could reduce total cost of ownership, avoid vendor lock-ins, and increase digital autonomy.
